Surventrix launches at Avery & Co CPD Conference 2022

Surventrix were delighted to launch its software as Avery & Co held their Annual CPD Conference in the beautiful setting of the Yacht Club at Liverpool Marina and we are delighted to be able to say that the day was a great success!

We were joined by nearly 100 surveyors for a day of lively and informative talks from our panel of experts. The event was sponsored by Surventrix and Sava and was held in association with Merseyside and Cheshire Blood Bikes Charity, a charity that Avery & Co are proud to support.

Range of experts

Throughout the day we heard from a range of experts and starting us off was Andrew Bradshaw, founding partner at the RTC Group. Andrew is the co-founder, Managing Partner and surveyor at multi award-winning company, RTC. Its range of specialist services include damp control, dry rot and woodworm treatments, basement and structural waterproofing, structural and concrete repairs, and flood remediation.  He was once the youngest qualified surveyor in the country when he passed his first industry qualification at just 20! Andrew delivered the presentation, ‘Retrofit cavity wall & spray foam insulation. Dampness in traditional buildings.’

Next to present was Matthew Fedigan.  Matthew is the co-founder of Domec Professional Services, an award-winning multi-disciplinary consultancy established in 2014 and based in Liverpool. His role is predominantly focused around leading service offerings relating to dispute resolution in respect of land, construction, and property disputes. Matthew is also Postgraduate Module Leader for Law at UCEM. He gave us all a fascinating, and vital, update on Case Law; the Building Safety Act six months on and conflict avoidance. After Matthew’s very enlightening presentation we were fortunate to have Nigel Sellars, Director of Standards at RICS.  Nigel leads and manages a range of RICS industry forums and is responsible for the development and delivery of international standards related projects, with a focus on property and residential valuation to ensure the consistent promotion and application of international standards within this region. Nigel delivered: ‘RICS and RICS residential valuation related standards update.’

The learning continued with Richard Ballam, Technical Director at Houzecheck Ltd. Richard has always enjoyed the technical challenge of the job and has particular skill in defence of complaints and PI claims and software development. The most rewarding part of his career has been training the next generation of surveyors. Richard delivered his presentation; ‘A practical guide on how to successfully fight a claim.’

Ian Bullock from Surventrix, presented our software and how it can help firms in our industry manage risk and improving efficiency for their client base.

Lunch

A lot of learning was rewarded with lunch and the chance to network with fellow industry professionals, this is such a bonus for us as we are often too busy working on our own businesses to get together like this.

After lunch we had the chance to hear from the other sponsor on the day for the event, Sava. Sava provides education, technology, and compliance services to building owners, surveyors and the wider property industry. They were established in 1983, and their roots are within energy assessment and home condition surveying.  We also had the chance to hear from the representative of  Merseyside & Cheshire Blood Bikes and the vital role these volunteers play in the health service, a fascinating insight into what they do.

The learning continued

Next up was Chris Davidson, Chairman at Genius Energy Lab. Chris has been responsible for some of the most innovative GSHP systems and ground collectors globally, such as One New Change in London, where he pioneered energy piles in the foundations coupled with open loop water wells to achieve maximum efficiency for the system. As an active member of the Association for Decentralised Energy, and Chair of the Policy Development Committee at the Ground Source Heat Pump Association, Chris plays a key role in shaping UK energy policy via government access. Chris delivered a great presentation; ‘Ground Source Heat Pumps, Today and Tomorrow.’

Our penultimate speaker was Phil Parnham a Chartered Building Surveyor from Phil Parnham Ltd. Phil is a Chartered Building Surveyor and has over forty years’ experience in the property sector. He spent his first ten years working in local government and for housing associations where he developed an interest in residential defects. He took up an academic post at Sheffield City Polytechnic (latterly Sheffield Hallam University) where he helped develop its building surveying course at all levels. Phil has written a number of books, journal articles, and conference papers, including The Surveyor’s Guide to RICS Home Surveys. He was also the technical author for RICS’ information paper on Japanese Knotweed (first edition) and the RICS Professional statement on the Home Survey Standard. Phil presented: ‘Basements, heatwaves, and how to get from an E to a C without breaking the bank!’

Last but not least!

Rounding off our day of development was Malcolm Holland, a Chartered Building Surveyor from Countrywide Surveying Services. Malcolm started his career as a land surveyor in the Royal Engineers before leaving the army to return to higher education. Having gained a degree in Building Surveying and then qualifying as a chartered surveyor in 1988, he has worked predominantly in private practice and mostly in the field of residential surveying. His book, A Practical Guide to Diagnosing Structural Movement, was published in 2012 by Wiley Blackwell. Malcolm presented; ‘A Practical Guide to diagnosing Structural Movement.’
