RICS Residential retrofit standard takes full effect on 31 October 2024
Following the launch of RICS first residential retrofit standard in March 2024, members are reminded that the standard will officially come into full effect on 31 October 2024. This standard, developed in response to rising energy prices and the UK government’s net-zero target, sets a framework for high quality retrofit advice, ensuring consistency, professionalism, and consumer confidence across the UK.
What does this mean for RICS members?
From 31 October, RICS members must follow the new Residential retrofit standard, which outlines a comprehensive approach to retrofit assessments, planning, and execution.
The standard empowers members to provide more robust guidance and advice to their clients on residential retrofits. Property owners can be assured that appointing an RICS member means they will receive expert advice from skilled, regulated professionals.
As demand for energy efficiency rises, and net-zero targets loom, the retrofitting of residential buildings has become a priority for both government and property owners. The effective adoption of this standard will support RICS professionals to lead in the sector, reflecting RICS’ strategic objectives in sustainability. Not only does the standard enhance the quality of retrofitting services, but it also creates opportunities to attract new clients, create additional revenue streams, and solidify a return on investment for training and certification through RICS.
